Song History
God, why does it happen
Why do you let your people suffer
It isn't fair, it isn't just
Give me the pain instead
I've never had the struggles
I've had the perfect life
Why do you always chose someone else
When the sin I have deserves so much

*Chorus*
Where does this pain and suffering come from
Could it ever come from a God of Love
There are times when I question the reasons,
ask them again and again
Lord, You have a purpose, your plan is right and true
We offer our hurt to you
Oh, Lord, we release to you

Lord, I know you've conquered death
Lord, I know you've conquered pain
Giving comfort to those hurting
Carrying them under your wing
Offering a prayer of expectancy
Only you can know their destiny
With the future within your grasp
I plead to you their faith

Lyrics Brandon Willey
Music Jeff Davis

The next song written after "Lonely Child," it was finally put to music about a week later. Tim was not in attendance at the rehearsal at the meeting this song was completed. Brandon elected to forego percussion parts in favor of the blues harp. It was recorded on "Purify" with a shaker as a base rhythm, and the harp for a more melodic feel.

Lyric thoughts from Brandon Though this song works really well on "Purify" as a follow-up to "Lonely Child," I did not initially write this song as a reaction to my feelings derived in Mexico. I actually wrote this song in a heart-aching response to the pain and hurt an amazing couple involved in the College Age Ministry at Central, Martin and Nicole Miller. Their child was still-born and came as a shock to everyone. Upon hearing the announcement one Sunday night at the Well (Spring 2001) I broke down, backed away from the soundboard, pulled out my notebook and scribbled down some incoherent thoughts as they poured from down deep. I later organized them into a song that still stirs a feeling of helplessness before God in me.
