A young rich man wanted to know What must he do to earn eternal life He had upheld all the commandments though Jesus said he still lacked one thing He must give to the poor and sell everything This young man, he left depressed Never realizing just how much He could have been blessed *Chorus* You've given me all I own I've taken it for granted All I do is ask for more And never stop to thank you for it This young man was blinded by, The wealth which built like poison in his eye Unable to see the light of life, the gift of grace tossed out with greed. His life's all filled with splendor and gold and that is all he will ever hope to know. I don't want this for my life I will try to change with all my might Bridge: Always forgetting that you are my King Author of Life, Giver of Everything All my things are washed away, like sand on a shore I don't want or need them anymore I'm giving you all I own My Savior and my Lord Please take my things and use them Oh, God, my King |
Song History 2. All I Own Back |
Lyrics Brandon Willey Instrumental music Tim Trainor Vocalic music Jeff Davis At one of the first few Wednesday night rehearsals for the band, Brandon reveals that he is a poet. He shows Jeff and Tim this piece which Tim takes home and creates a guitar part for. Now hearing a tune, Jeff writes the vocal melody that same night. The song is first recorded at the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences for Tim's final project, with Chris Bisset on lead guitar. Later, it became the first track on "Purify" with Phil Davis on the lead and Brandon on the BGV. Lyric thoughts by Brandon I penned this poem/ song on the ride back to Arizona after a home building trip (through Amor Ministries) in Puerto Penasco, Mexico with numerous families from Central Christian Church. I was on the construction site that had the honor of building a 44' x 22' church building on a dump for a small, but fervently growing church. We worked side by side with the locals and church members and though I had built many homes for Amor, nothing before had touched my heart in this way. Thus, as the sun faded below the horizon I scratched out my thoughts onto paper. |
